CallingID Support: Using the CallingID Toolbar

How do I use CallingID?
CallingID is intended to help you make educated decisions about trusting sites while keeping you safe from known thieves and criminals.

After installing CallingID you'll notice an additional toolbar in your browser window. This toolbar evaluates the sites you visit and produces the appropriate risk assessment and rating.

We recommend glancing at the risk assessment indicator every time you browse to a new page.

The site has been verified as safe to access and to send information to. To get more details click the VERIFIED indicator.

CallingID found problems in the web site or with its owner. To get more details click the LOW RISK indicator. You should make sure that you trust the owner of this site before you give it information.
Problems were found in the web page or in it's owner's details. Before you proceed, you must visually verify that this is the site you want to visit and give information to. To get more details click the HIGH RISK indicator.
This is a temporary indicator - site verification information is being processed. You should proceed with caution or wait for verification to change to the appropriate risk assessment.

What does the security lock symbol mean?
The security lock indicates that the page you are currently viewing has a security certificate. That means that a certificate authority has pronounced the site safe.

In most cases you should submit personal and confidential information only if a valid security lock symbol is present in the CallingID toolbar and CallingID has labeled the site VERIFIED.

Valid Security Lock Symbol - the web page has a valid certificate. If the site is also marked VERIFIED, the overall security level of the site enables sending private information.

Invalid Security Lock Symbol - a problematic certificate is being used. Proceed with caution.

What is the "Report" button for?
The Report button allows you to view and contribute to CallingID's site database.
Clicking on the report button will present 3 options:

Report this site as scam (high risk)...
This option opens a dialog that allows you to inform CallingID of dangerous sites (Scams, Phishing, Pharming, etc.).

Use the comment field to add relevant information about the site so our staff will be able to identify the issues you've noticed. Please provide your email address, so we can contact you once the issue has been resolved.

Each report is manually handled and if found correct it is updated so that you and others visiting the site you reported receive the correct CallingID data.

Note: Many sites are considered high risk because the site owner's identity is hidden. In order to change their status, CallingID needs the name of the owner of the site, its location (city, state [when relevant] and country) and any form of proof that the owner exists in the claimed location and that he owns the site.

Report this site as Verified...

That means that you may not see all of the address information when you have toolbar in short mode. To see all the information simply put your mouse over the site information the full information will be displayed.
Custom Sizes - In Internet Explorer you may change the size of the toolbar by clicking and dragging the dotted line to the left of the CallingID toolbar.

If you can not see the dotted line to the left of your toolbars, your toolbars are locked. To unlock your toolbars, simply click the View Menu and select Toolbars, then remove the check mark from the 'Lock the Toolbars' line in the menu. Now you can resize your toolbar as explained above.

Occasionally I see a CallingID icon in my system tray. What does it mean?
When you first open your browser CallingID makes sure you are well protected by getting the latest data from the CallingID servers. This data includes lists of new phishing sites, lists of new scam sites, new characteristics to protect you from, etc. While this is happening an icon will appear in your system tray (near your clock). Users with very fast Internet connections may not even notice the icon as CallingID will get the latest data very quickly.
