How to Use CallingID Link Advisor 2.0
What makes the CallingID LinkAdvisor 2.0 risk assessment indicator special?
The objective is to protect you from linking to
a
a malware, phishing
or scam site and avoid sending confidential or personal data to phishing sites, Trojans, spam ID collection sites or scam sites.
CallingID LinkAdvisor 2.0 risk assessment uniquely provides real-time guidance to make you aware of exposures regarding sites that you intend to visit by letting you know the owner's identity and the level of risk involved when you intend to give information or money. The combination of the risk assessment, site ownership and address information provide a solid basis for you to decide whether you should proceed, or not.
Paying attention to these ratings and who owns the site significantly reduces your susceptibility to becoming an identity theft victim, being defrauded or having your PC compromised with malware. CallingID warns you before you click on a link and also protects you while you are on a page if you are about to send data to an unsafe or suspicious site. Pressing on the Risk Assessment displays the results of the real-time link testing.
Can I see a Site Owner's location on a map?
Yes, 'Right Click' the Site Information bar and choose 'Show Map'. A new browser window (or tab) will open showing you a map of the site owner's address.
What does the security lock symbol mean?
The security lock indicates that the page you are currently viewing has a security certificate. That means that a certificate authority has pronounced the site safe.
In most cases you should submit personal and confidential information only if a valid security lock symbol is present in the CallingID toolbar and CallingID has labele
d the site
VERIFIED.
Occasionally I see a CallingID icon in my system tray. What does it mean?
When you first open your browser CallingID makes sure you are well protected by getting the latest data from the CallingID servers. This data includes frequent refreshes of protection information that ensure rapid responsiveness. While this is happening an icon will appear in your system tray (near your clock). Users with very fast Internet connections may not even see the icon as this refresh is very small and the data is transferred very fast.
